Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was an American poet. A popular figure in his day, his major works include "Paul Revere's Ride" (1860), "The Song of Hiawatha" (1855), and "Evangeline" (1847). 1867, he was the first American to translate Dante’s "Divine Comedy".
